"I was within and without, simultaneously enchanted and repelled by the inexhaustible variety of life."
This is my favorite line from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s, The Great Gatsby. It perfectly describes the themes I like to explore through photography. I often feel alone and overwhelmed in crowded social situations. Large cities exaggerate this feeling to existential proportions, but crowds are made up of individuals and knowing that each individual is a unique soul defined by their own particular experiences is, to me, very beautiful and meaningful.
